Before MAGA, Arizona was already full of far-right nut jobs.
The state pushed many extreme bills and racist narratives. Most notably S.B. 1070, the “papers please” law that was anti-Mexican and targeted the brown community as a whole. On top of that, Joe Arpaio was running the sheriff office and terrorizing the brown population of Maricopa County.
